Quiet Day
March 30th, 2005Been a quiet day today. Oh, apart from a huge chunk of the Rentokil network failing.
Rentokil have a national network infrastructure connecting all of the remote offices back to a central point in the Garland Road offices in East Grinstead. This provide email and web browsing and connections to various application servers. Most of this is via 64k ISDN links, however recently some of these connections have been replaced by BT NetEquip connections – which is effectively a VPN over the BT backbone.
Well, the central NetEquip router in E.G. fell over this morning and it’s taken until now for the backup ISDN connections to wake up. Many of the Rentokil businesses have been without their network connections during that time. It’s scary looking at the network diagram to see red links everywhere.
And I should add that the guy who looks after all this network and the migrations to NetEquip, is away for the week. Typical I guess.
