Sunday Trading Hours

July 6th, 2006

It’s just been announced that Alistair Darling, Trade and Industry Secretary, has rejected calls from a conglomerate of large retailers to deregulate the Sunday trading hours. Currently shops with a floor area more than 280 sq m can only open for a maximum of six hours between 10am and 6pm.

There’s two campaigns – one to deregulate and one to “keep Sundays special” – websites at http://www.mysundaymychoice.com/ and http://www.keepsundayspecial.org.uk/ respectively.

I’m of mixed opinion on this topic – but what do you think? Post comments below, I’d be interested to hear.
